SEO for roofers: show up when someone's roof is leaking
Updated 1 October 2026 · 5 minute read
Roofing clicks are the most expensive of any trade on Google Ads, which makes showing up for free worth more to roofers than almost anyone. Here's how Google picks which roofers to show, and how to be one of them.
Why roofers should care most
"Roofers near me" gets about 33,100 searches a month in the UK. A top-of-page Google Ads click on it costs £3.75 to £17.93, the highest of the ten trades in Local Ladder's UK Trade Lead Cost Tracker (September 2026). Every job you win from the free map and search results saves you that.
Two kinds of roofing customer
- "It's leaking now." They want someone fast and will ring the first roofer who looks trustworthy. Your leak repair page needs your number at the top and a way to send photos.
- "We're planning a new roof." They'll get several quotes over weeks. They want photos of finished roofs, what's included and reviews from similar jobs.
Build pages for both. A single "roofing services" page can't serve someone with a bucket under the drip and someone planning a re-roof.
A page for each roofing job
People search for the specific job, so give each its own page:
- Roof leak repairs
- Re-roofing and new roofs
- Flat roofs, naming the systems you fit
- Chimney repairs and repointing
- Guttering, fascias and soffits
Photos do the selling
Roofing is hard for customers to judge because they can't see up there. Before-and-after photos, drone shots if you have them, and close-ups of neat leadwork and ridge lines show what they're paying for. Add them to your website and your Google profile. Google lists photos and videos among the things that help you show customers what you offer.
Your Google Business Profile
- Choose Roofing contractor as your main category if that's what you do most.
- Verify it and fill in everything: areas, services, hours and your website. Google says complete and accurate info makes you more likely to show in local results.
- Keep the business name exactly as you trade, with no added keywords.
Trust matters more than usual
Many homeowners are wary of doorstep cold-callers offering roof work, so they look harder for proof before they pick a roofer. Show your reviews, how long you've traded, any trade association memberships and any guarantees you really offer. Ask every customer for a review with your link, and never offer anything in return. See how to get more Google reviews.
The basics behind the scenes
- Clear page titles, such as "Flat roof repairs in Wigan | Your Business Name".
- Fast pages, tap-to-call and WhatsApp on every page, so people can send photos of the problem.
- Business markup, and the same name, number and area everywhere you're listed.
