How to get more work as a roofer
Updated 1 October 2026 · 5 minute read
Roofing work often comes in bursts: bad weather brings a rush of leaks, then it goes quiet. These are the ways roofers keep the diary fuller between the busy spells.
1. Show up on Google Maps
About 33,100 people a month search "roofers near me" in the UK (Local Ladder's tracker, September 2026). Most of them see the map results first, and those come from Google Business Profiles. Complete every section, add your services and areas, and post photos of finished roofs regularly. Our SEO for roofers guide covers it.
2. Let customers send you photos
Most roofing enquiries start with "can you have a look?". A WhatsApp button on your website and profile lets customers send photos of the problem, so you can give a rough idea before you drive out, and win the job while competitors are still arranging a visit.
3. Reviews that mention the roof
Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking, and roofing customers look hard for proof. Ask every customer as soon as the job's finished, with your review link, and never offer anything in return. See how to get more Google reviews.
4. Builders, property managers and letting agents
Builders doing extensions often need a roofer they can rely on. Property managers and letting agents look after many roofs at once and need repairs done properly. A handful of these relationships can keep you busy when one-off enquiries are slow.
5. A website with a page per job
Leak repairs, re-roofs, flat roofs, chimneys and guttering are all separate searches. A page for each, with photos and your areas, gives you a chance at every one.
6. Paid leads: do the maths first
Roofing leads are expensive. Local Ladder's UK Trade Lead Cost Tracker (verified 30 September 2026) puts a top-of-page Google Ads click on "roofers near me" at £3.75 to £17.93, the highest of the ten trades it tracks, and MyBuilder roofing leads at £15 to £60 each. Checkatrade costs £30 a month (Approved) or from £59 a month (Growth), plus VAT. Track the jobs each source wins before spending more.
7. Ask for referrals
A neighbour who's watched you re-roof next door is the easiest customer you'll ever win. When you finish a job, leave a card, ask whether anyone else on the street has mentioned their roof, and make sure your website and number are on your van.
