How to get more Google reviews as a tradesperson
Updated 1 October 2026 · 4 minute read
Reviews are often the first thing a customer checks before they ring a trade. The good news is that getting more of them mostly comes down to asking at the right moment, with a link that makes it easy.
Step 1: get your review link
Google gives every Business Profile its own review link and QR code. To get yours:
- Go to business.google.com on a computer and open your profile.
- Select Read reviews, then Get more reviews.
- Select Copy to copy the link. To get the QR code, right-click it and save the image.
Google says the QR code can only be made on a computer, not on a phone. Once you've copied the link, you can send it from your phone as often as you like.
Step 2: ask at the right moment
The best time to ask is when the job's just finished and the customer is pleased. A short WhatsApp message works well:
Google suggests sharing the link by email, WhatsApp or Facebook, on receipts and in thank-you messages. Printing the QR code on your invoices or business cards works too.
Step 3: reply to every review
Thank people for good reviews, and reply calmly to bad ones with what you did or will do to put it right. Future customers read the replies as well as the reviews. Google asks businesses not to use replies to offer deals or promotions.
The rules you must not break
- No incentives. Google's policy bans offering payment, discounts, or free goods or services in exchange for a review, or for changing or removing a bad one.
- Ask everyone. Google's policy also bans discouraging negative reviews or only asking customers you expect to be positive.
- No fake reviews. Don't write reviews for your own business or ask friends and family to. Google removes reviews based on a conflict of interest.
- It's the law, too. Since 6 April 2025, the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act has banned submitting or commissioning fake reviews, or reviews that hide the fact they were incentivised. The Competition and Markets Authority enforces it.
Put your reviews to work
Reviews help most when people see them. Put your star rating and review count on your website, on every page, linked to your Google profile so customers can read them for themselves. Every website we build does this automatically.
