How to cancel your Checkatrade membership
Updated 1 October 2026 · 3 minute read
Cancelling Checkatrade is straightforward if you do it at the right time and in the right way. Get either wrong and you can end up paying for another year.
The rules, from Checkatrade's support pages
- Most memberships run on a fixed 12-month term.
- Membership renews automatically every 12 months unless you say you want to cancel within your renewal window.
- You can't normally cancel part-way through your contract.
- Cancelling the direct debit doesn't end the contract, and charges still apply if you ask to cancel outside the notice window.
- You need to speak to support. Checkatrade says emails don't count.
- After you cancel, your profile is removed from public listings on your renewal date, and you stop appearing in searches and receiving leads.
Step by step
- Find your renewal date in your Checkatrade account or your renewal emails.
- Note when your renewal window opens. Your renewal communication should say.
- Call Checkatrade support in that window. At the time of writing, its support page gives 0333 014 6190, or the number in your renewal email.
- Ask for written confirmation of the cancellation and the date your profile comes down.
- Only cancel the direct debit once the cancellation is confirmed.
Before you cancel: keep the work coming
Your Checkatrade profile and its leads stop on your renewal date, so set up your own channels first:
- A complete, verified Google Business Profile, so you show on Google Maps.
- Your own website, so people searching your name or your trade find you.
- A plan for Google reviews, so you have fresh reviews of your own. See how to get more Google reviews.
