How to get more work as a landscaper
Updated 1 October 2026 · 4 minute read
Landscaping is seasonal, and most landscapers know the feeling of a packed spring and a thin winter. These are the ways to win more of the big jobs and smooth out the quiet months.
1. Before-and-after photos of every job
Take the "before" shot on day one, every time. A garden transformation sells the next one better than anything else, on your website, your Google profile and Facebook.
2. Get ready before the rush
People start planning gardens before the weather turns. Use the quieter months to publish project pages and refresh your Google profile, so you're the landscaper they find when they start looking.
3. Turn one-off jobs into regular work
A customer who's just had a new garden often wants it kept that way. Offer regular maintenance, such as hedges, lawns and borders, to smooth out the year.
4. Builders and developers
Builders finishing extensions and new-build developers often need gardens sorted at the end of a job. A few good contacts can bring steady work.
5. Answer the questions customers worry about
Driveways are a good example. GOV.UK guidance says paving more than 5 square metres of a front garden is only permitted development if the surface is permeable. Explaining that on your website shows you know your stuff.
6. Your Google profile and reviews
Keep your Google Business Profile complete and full of garden photos, and send your review link after every job. Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking. See our SEO for landscapers guide and reviews guide.
7. Paid leads, measured
Local Ladder's UK Trade Lead Cost Tracker (verified 30 September 2026) puts MyBuilder shortlists at typically £5 to £35 each and Bark leads at roughly £9 to £36 or more. Checkatrade costs £30 a month (Approved) or from £59 a month (Growth), plus VAT. Track which jobs each brings before spending more.
