How often do I need an EICR?
The usual guidance is every 10 years for an owner-occupied home and every 5 years for a rented property in England, or sooner if the previous report says so. It's also sensible when you buy a home.
What do C1, C2 and C3 mean?
C1 means danger is present and immediate action is needed. C2 means potentially dangerous and should be put right urgently. C3 means improvement is recommended. A report with any C1, C2 or FI (further investigation) is unsatisfactory.
How long does an EICR take?
It depends on the size of the property and the number of circuits. A typical home takes a few hours. The power is off for short periods while circuits are tested, so it helps to plan around that.
