Tree work

From one branch to the whole tree

Every job starts with a look at the tree, what's around it and whether it's protected.

Tree felling

Taken down in sections where space is tight, lowered on ropes past roofs, fences and greenhouses.

Crown reduction & pruning

Lighter, shorter or thinner crowns that let in light and keep the tree's natural shape.

Hedge cutting

Tall and wide hedges cut back and shaped, with the cuttings cleared away.

Stump grinding

Stumps ground out below the surface so you can turf, plant or pave over.

Storm damage

Fallen trees and hanging branches made safe, then cleared. Call us with photos.

Tree surveys & advice

Not sure if a tree is safe, or what it needs? We'll look and give you honest advice.

Before anyone cuts

Is my tree protected?

Two rules catch people out. Answer two questions and we'll tell you where you stand.

TPO

Tree Preservation Order

If a tree has a TPO, most work on it, even pruning, needs consent from the council first. Shrewsbury and the rest of the county come under Shropshire Council.

6 wk

Conservation area

In a conservation area, most work on trees needs six weeks' notice to the council before you start, even without a TPO.

Does the tree have a TPO?

It'll be on the council's records or in your house deeds.

Are you in a conservation area?

Lots of central Shrewsbury is. The council has maps.

Why Oakhaven

Good for you, good for the tree

Honest advice

If a tree only needs a trim, we'll say so. Felling is the last option, not the first.

Proper rigging

Heavy limbs lowered on ropes, not dropped, so roofs, lawns and borders survive.

Wildlife first

We check for nesting birds and bats before we start, and plan the work around them.

Logs your way

Keep the logs for the stove, have them stacked, or have the lot taken away.

FAQ

Tree work questions

Something else? Ask us on WhatsApp.

How do I know if my tree is protected?

Shropshire Council keeps records of Tree Preservation Orders and conservation areas. We check before any work, and if consent or notice is needed we can sort the paperwork.

Can I cut branches hanging over from next door?

Usually you can cut back to the boundary, as long as the tree isn't protected. It's polite to talk to your neighbour first and offer them the cuttings.

When is the best time for tree work?

Lots of work is best done in autumn and winter when trees are bare. Hedges are best cut outside the bird nesting season where possible, and we always check for nests first.

Do you take the wood away?

Yes, or we can leave logs cut to length and stacked for you. Branches are chipped on site and taken away.
